c) something that does the action of (a specified verb) [a covering for her head]
d) material used for (a specified thing) [blanketing, carpeting]
e) an act or process involving (a specified thing): added to verbs or, sometimes, nouns added to verbs or, sometimes, nouns
3. [ME < OE] forming nouns a person or thing of a (specified) kind or origin: sometimes used with diminutive force [atheling, farthing]
